This qualification is a recognised qualification for those wishing to enter an apprenticeship for the children and young people’s workforce in England. It covers the age range from birth to 19 years and requires the learner to spend time in a real work environment.

It is intended to guide and assess development of knowledge and skills relating to the children and young people’s workforce and will provide progression to the early learning and childcare, social care and learning development and support services workforces. The qualification confirms competence under supervision in these areas where appropriate and serves as a progression pathway to the required qualification at Level 3 or above.

Entry Requirements

This apprenticeship qualification is for all people aged 16 and above who are capable of reaching the required standards. FW Solutions Ltd issue Initial Assessments in English, Maths and ICT to assess the level of all applicants.

Method of Assessment

Apprenticeship qualifications are delivered in the workplace. You will be allocated a personal Teaching and Learning Co-ordinator and will have access to our on-line study area where you will find all your learning materials. Your Teaching and Learning Co-ordinator will provide you with personal tutorial support and assessment at pre-arranged times. Assessment is through a variety of methods including observations in the workplace, witness testimonies, product evidence, professional discussions, assignments and project/case studies. All evidence will be logged to your electronic portfolio of evidence.

Potential job roles for those working towards, or wishing to work towards this qualification include:

  • Assistant in day nurseries, nursery schools and nursery classes
  • Assistant playgroup worker
  • Nursery nurse
  • Registered childminder
  • Registered nanny

Apprentices who achieve this qualification may progress to the Level 3 Diploma for The Early Years Workforce (The Early Years Educator).

Employment Responsibilities and Rights in Health, Social Care or Children and Young People’s settings (ERR)
In this part of the Apprenticeship you will learn about your rights and responsibilities in the workplace.

GLH – Guided Learning Hours

Your efforts will be rewarded throughout the process, as you will receive a separate certificate for each qualification you achieve, as well as receiving a certificate once you have completed and achieved all aspects of your Apprenticeship programme.

As your learning provider we will help to coordinate your Apprenticeship and develop skills and knowledge, while your employer provides the practical experience to put those skills to the test.
