This apprenticeship qualification is a direct replacement for the Pearson Edexcel Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce and is an NVQ/Competence based qualification.

The applicant should be working at a level where they may either be working on their own or supervising others and should have prior experience of the sector and be employed in a position whereby they would be able to demonstrate the competencies required at this level.

The Level 3 Diploma in Children’s Learning and Development (Early Years Educator) is for learners who work in, or want to work with children in Early Years settings in England only. It gives learners the opportunity to:

  • demonstrate competence as an Early Years Educator, Child minder or Nursery Nurse
  • develop knowledge and skills related to the specified job roles in early years education
  • have existing skills recognised
  • achieve a nationally recognised Level 3 qualification
  • develop their own personal growth and engagement in learning

Entry Requirements

The apprentice should be working at a level where they may either be working on their own or supervising others. The apprentice should have prior experience of the sector and be employed in a position whereby they would be able to demonstrate the competencies required at this level.

Apprentices studying this course must have achieved a Grade C or above in GCSE English and GCSE Mathematics or be studying towards achieving an equivalent Level 2 Functional Skills qualification prior to completion of this Level 3 qualification.

Method of Assessment

Apprenticeship qualifications are delivered in the workplace. As an apprentice you will be allocated a personal Teaching and Learning Co-ordinator and will have access to our on-line study area where you will find all your learning materials. Your Teaching and Learning Co-ordinator will provide you with personal tutorial support and assessment at pre-arranged times. Assessment is through a variety of methods including observations in the workplace, witness testimonies, product evidence, professional discussions, assignments and project/case studies. All evidence will be logged to your electronic portfolio of evidence.

Progression Routes

Achievement of this apprenticeship qualification will enable learners to access higher level jobs within the sector, e.g. Nursery Supervisor, Nursery Manager, Pre-school Manager/Co-ordinator, etc.  There is also opportunity to go on to further study at higher levels, particularly working towards Team Leading and Management at levels 3 and 4

Learners can also progress to the Level 4 Diploma in Advanced Childcare Practice and Management

In this part of the Apprenticeship you will learn about your rights and responsibilities in the workplace.

GLH – Guided Learning Hours

Your efforts will be rewarded throughout the process, as you will receive a separate certificate for each qualification you achieve, as well as receiving a certificate once you have completed and achieved all aspects of your Apprenticeship programme.

As your learning provider we will help to coordinate your Apprenticeship and develop skills and knowledge, while your employer provides the practical experience to put those skills to the test.
