This is an exciting opportunity to train as a Childminding Assistant and gain and develop new skills and experiences whilst working towards a level 2 qualification in childcare.

Duties will include:

  • Assist in all childminding related daily duties
  • Assist where necessary in preparing the premises for the arrival of children e.g. health and safety checks, general cleaning
  • Be friendly, approachable and professional to parents/carers who visit and who drop/collect their children
  • Assist in planning and setting out of equipment to meet children’s current interests
  • Play under supervision alongside the children, to observe their play and development and to make notes on daily record sheets
  • Assist with tidying up, during and after play activities where necessary
  • Keep children safe
  • Assist with snack and mealtime preparation and serving
  • Assist with meeting all the individual needs of the children being cared for
  • Be aware of and follow published policies at all times

Early Years Practitioner Level 2 Apprenticeship Standard:

Apprenticeships are delivered in the workplace and 20% of your working time will be dedicated to ‘Off the Job Training’. You will be allocated a personal Teaching and Learning Co-ordinator and will have access to our online study area where you will find all your assessment materials.

Your Teaching and Learning Co-ordinator will provide you with personal tutorial support and assessment at pre-arranged times.

Assessment is through a variety of methods including observations in the workplace, witness testimonies, product evidence, and professional discussions. All evidence will be logged to your electronic portfolio.

  • Intermediate apprenticeship for the Early Years Practitioner
  • Functional Skills Level 1 in maths, English (where applicable)

  • You need to show the ability to develop excellent communication and relationships with children, parents and colleagues
Qualifications required:

Maths and English GCSE graded C/4 or above (or equivalent) would be an advantage

  • You must be well presented and reliable
  • Successful candidates will have a lot of patience, have a caring approach and be understanding
Future Prospects:

Apprentices who achieve the Intermediate Apprenticeship (Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner) can progress to the Advanced Apprenticeship Standard for the Early Years Educator.
