You will be provided with the chance to “earn and learn” in a well-established nursery with an experienced staff team. You will be given the opportunity to gain and develop new skills and experiences, whilst working towards a Level 3 apprenticeship standard for the Early Years Educator.

Duties will include:

The ability and willingness to:

  1. To work with children
  2. To safeguard all children
  3. To attend training
  4. To complete all assignments set
  5. To work cooperatively as part of a team
  6. To attend associated training
  7. To liaise with mentor
  8. Attending teaching and learning meetings with your tutor and completing assignments to a high standard and on time
  9. To attend team meetings and contributing ideas to support children’s learning experiences.
  10.  Under supervision, provide all aspects of care for children including changing and feeding
  11. To assist with meeting the personal and emotional needs of individual children
  12. To interact with children in the nursery and promote children’s learning.
  13. To be aware of and implement all the nursery’s policies and procedures
  14. Support all staff and engage in a cooperative highly motivated and productive staff team
  15. To attend out of working hours’ activities, e.g. training, staff meetings, parent’s evenings, fairs etc.
  16. Contribute to high standards of hygiene and cleanliness in nursery

We are based on the same site as Ireland Wood Children’s Centre and provide  childcare for children aged 3 months to 4 years old. Together we have created a safe, secure environment where children can play and explore freely and learn about the world around them. Our team work together to create an environment where children feel secure, and activities are provided which will foster a sense of curiosity and need to explore in each and every child. Our staff team are highly qualified and well experienced in Early Years care. All our Room Supervisors and Assistant Room Supervisors are qualified to Level 5 or above. A regular programme of training ensures all practitioners are up to date with the latest research and all staff have a current Paediatric first aid certificate.

Training to be provided:

Apprenticeships are delivered in the workplace and 6 hours a week of your working hours will be dedicated to ‘off the job training’. You will be allocated a Teaching & Learning Co-ordinator (TLC) and will have access to our online study area where you will find all your study materials. Your TLC will provide you with personal tutorial support and on-programme assessment at pre-arranged times.

End point assessment by an independent assessment organisation and comprises of two activities – knowledge test and portfolio-based professional discussion.

You will be working towards the Level 3 Early Years Educator apprenticeship standard, which includes:

  • Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours
  • Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Educator
  • Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid. (RQF) or Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF)
  • Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (if required)

There is also opportunity for apprentices to go on to further study at higher levels, particularly working towards the Level 5 Early Years Lead Practitioner apprenticeship standard
