You will be provided with the chance to “earn and learn” in a well-established Out of School Club. You will be given the opportunity to gain and develop new skills and experiences, whilst working towards a Level 3 qualification in Playwork


Duties will include:

  • Planning activities with the children.
  • Providing play areas, materials and equipment giving children the freedom to spend their leisure time in their own way
  • Encouraging fair and caring behaviour among the children
  • Encouraging independence and self-esteem
  • Talking to children about their concerns or worries
  • Dealing with injuries and emergencies
  • Liaising with parents, carers, and sometimes other professionals.

Kids at Heart owner and general manager Julie Shaw is passionate about high quality childcare and back in 1994 she created the first Kids at Heart Nursery to provide the most comfortable, safe and stimulating environment in which to do so and the group now consists of two day nurseries and two out of school clubs. Kids at Heart currently run two Kids’ Clubs in Harrogate. One is Woodlands Kids’ Club, at Willow Tree Community Primary School and the other is Western Kids’ Club, based at Western Primary School. We offer a breakfast club and after school care at both sites, along with a school holiday club for children aged between 3 and 11 years at Woodlands. At Woodland Kids’ Club we have an under 6’s room and an over 6’s room so that activities can be carefully tailored to the needs of the children attending

Apprenticeships are delivered in the workplace. You will be allocated a personal Teaching and Learning Co-ordinator and will have access to our on- line study area where you will find all your assessment materials.

Your Teaching and Learning Co-ordinator will provide you with personal tutorial support and assessment at pre-arranged times.

Assessment is through a variety of methods including observations in the workplace, witness testimonies, product evidence and professional discussions. All evidence will be logged to your electronic portfolio.

  • Functional Skills Level 1 and 2 in English and maths.
  • Employment Rights & Responsibilities are delivered via a workbook and completed in the workplace.
  • Personal Learning & Thinking Skills are embedded in the main qualification.
