Who is this course for?

The NCFE CACHE Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner is for learners who work in, or who want to work in, the children and young people’s workforce in England.

This qualification is a recognised qualification for those wishing to enter the children and young people’s workforce in England and covers the age range from birth to 19 years. This qualification also requires the learner to spend time in a real work environment, confirms competence under supervision, where appropriate.

The qualification gives learners the opportunity to:

  • develop and demonstrate competence in working as part of the children and young people’s workforce in roles such as assistants in children’s centres, day nurseries, nursery schools and nursery classes, nursery nurses, care workers and registered child-minders
  • develop technical skills and knowledge and understanding related to the specified job roles
  • have existing skills recognised; achieve a nationally-recognised Level 2 qualification and to develop their own personal growth and engagement in learning

How you'll be assessed

Qualifications are delivered in the workplace. You will be allocated a personal Teaching and Learning Co-ordinator and will be given access to our on-line study area where you will find all your learning materials.

Your allocated Teaching and Learning Co-ordinator will provide you with personal tutorial support and assessment at pre-arranged times. Assessment is through a variety of methods including observations in the workplace, witness testimonies, product evidence, professional discussions, assignments and project/case studies. All evidence will be logged to your electronic portfolio of evidence.

What you can do next

Learners who achieve this level 2 diploma will be eligible to enter the workforce for children and young people in England. The qualification serves as a progression pathway to the required qualification at Level 3 or above (for all new practitioners) for registration and regulatory requirements in the sector, such as the Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce (Early Years Educator).

The qualification will provide progression to the early learning and childcare, social care and learning development and support services workforces.
