Early Years Educators, and other job roles such as nursery nurse and childminders, are highly trained professionals who play a key role in ensuring that young children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. They work in a range of settings including full day care, children’s centres, pre schools, reception classes and as childminders. They may either be working on their own or supervising others to deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) requirements set by Government for the learning, development and care of children from birth to 5 years old.
GCSEs at grades C/4 or above (or equivalent) in maths and English would be an advantage.
Level 2 Childcare qualification (or equivalent) or relevant experience in a childcare setting is essential. This will be assessed upon application.
You will be working towards the Level 3 Early Years Educator Apprenticeship Standard (Knowledge and Understanding, Skills and Behaviours). You must complete the following approved qualifications mandated in the standard:
· Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid or Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid
· English and maths Level 2 (if not already achieved)
· Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Educator
– End-Point Assessment (EPA)
Qualifications are delivered in the workplace. You will be allocated a personal Teaching and Learning Co-ordinator and will have access to our online study area where you will find all your learning materials. Your Teaching and Learning Co-ordinator will provide you with personal tutorial support and assessment at pre-arranged times.
Assessment is through a variety of methods including observations in the workplace, witness testimonies, product evidence, professional discussions, assignments, projects and case studies. All evidence will be logged to your electronic portfolio.
End point assessment by an independent assessment organisation and comprises of two activities – knowledge test and portfolio-based professional discussion.
Achievement of the Advanced Apprenticeship will enable apprentices to access higher level jobs within the wider childcare sector, e.g. Room Leader, Nursery Supervisor or Nursery Manager. There is also opportunity for apprentices to go on to further study at higher levels, particularly working towards Levels 4 and 5 Foundation Degrees in Early Years.
