FW Solutions Inclusion Statement

The Children & Families Act 2014 defines Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) in the following way:

A child or young person has SEN if they have a learning difficulty or disability which calls for special educational provision to be made for him or her. The definition of special educational needs (SEN) is extended to include young people up to the age of 25; the definition includes ‘learning difficulties’ and ‘disabilities’. FE colleges and Independent Training Providers such as FW Solutions are advised to have a 0-25 SEN Code of Practice.

Many children and young people who have SEN may also have a disability. A disability is described in law under the Equality Act 2010 as ‘a physical or mental impairment which has a long-term (a year or more) and substantial adverse effect on the ability to carry out normal day-to-day activities.’ This includes, for example, sensory impairments such as those that affect sight and hearing, and long-term health conditions such as asthma, diabetes or epilepsy.

It is important to FW Solutions to have a SEND Strategy to be transparent to our stakeholders and outline our vision for learners with SEND.

Our mission is to deliver an outstanding learning experience leading to positive outcomes for our learners, employers and in turn our local community and economy.

FW Solutions is committed to supporting all learners to achieve success in their Apprenticeship or adult learning qualification.  We recognise the achievements and abilities of all our students and are committed to offering an inclusive curriculum to ensure the best possible outcomes for all our learners, whatever their needs. All staff will actively seek to raise achievement and remove barriers to learning in both apprenticeships and adult learning programmes.

  • Ensuring a robust initial assessment process to identify any learner that may need adjustments or support
  • Providing adjustments and support where a learner has requested them
  • Carrying out a needs assessment to identify the individual support required by learners with disabilities
  • Providing and monitoring support on an appropriate basis for all learners through the progress review process
  • Ensure all TLCs are aware of the procedures for identifying, assessing and making provision for learners with SEND
  • Providing a programme of CPD for all TLCs to equip them to meet the needs of learners with SEN.
  • Working in partnership with parents, families and other professionals to ensure they are fully informed and EHCPs updated

Within our Special Educational Needs strategy, we have implemented a number of identification and assessment tools. The strategy can be downloaded here.
